Are your realtionships HEalthy?

Teen dating violence is a serious issue, and it's essential for youth to be aware of the signs, risks, and prevention strategies.

What Is Teen Dating Violence?

Teen dating violence refers to abusive behaviors in dating relationships among teenagers. It can manifest as physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. Teen dating violence can lead to physical injuries, emotional trauma, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and other long-term consequences.

Tips for Youth:

  • Trust Your Instincts: If something doesn't feel right in your relationship, trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, it's worth exploring why.
  • Know Your Rights: You have the right to set boundaries in your relationship and to say "no" to anything that makes you uncomfortable.
  • Healthy Communication: Open and respectful communication is key. Talk to your partner about your feelings and concerns and listen to theirs as well.
  • Recognize Red Flags: Be aware of red flags that may indicate an unhealthy relationship, such as jealousy, controlling behavior, or isolation from friends and family.
  • Consent Matters: Understand that consent must be given freely, enthusiastically, and can be revoked at any time. No one should pressure or coerce you into any sexual activity.
  • Bystander Intervention: If you witness dating violence or see someone in an unsafe situation, seek help from a trusted adult or try to intervene safely.
  • Seek Support: If you're experiencing dating violence, talk to a trusted adult, teacher, counselor, or call a helpline for guidance and support. If you decide to leave an abusive relationship, develop a safety plan with the help of a counselor or advocate.

It's crucial for youth to be informed, vigilant, and proactive in promoting healthy relationships and preventing dating violence. Remember that you have the right to be safe and respected in your relationships, and there are resources available to help if you ever find yourself in an abusive situation.
