It’s hard to know what to do, how to feel, or what your options are after a sexual assault. Please know that you’re not alone. Below are some things to keep in mind. If you are in immediate danger or seriously injured, call 911.
When you call the National Sexual Assault Hotline, a staff member will walk you through the process of getting help at your own pace. You can also visit online.rainn.org to chat anonymously.
Seeking medical attention is essential to address any physical injuries and to preserve evidence. CDFNE staff are specially trained to offer compassionate and trauma-informed care, conducting thorough examinations while prioritizing the individual’s comfort and consent. In addition to addressing physical health, our nurses can provide information about emergency contraception, STI prophylaxis, and follow-up care.
Reporting sexual violence is a personal decision, and you should take whatever steps you feel are best for your situation and well-being. It's essential to seek support from friends, family, counselors, and advocates to help you navigate this difficult process. You are not alone, and there are resources available to assist you.
